The GSG is a global network of persons professionally involved in the study and conservation of grouse (Tetraonidae). Anyone involved in reputable work relating to the conservation and sustainable management of grouse anywhere in the world is welcome to become a member of the GSG.

The current membership of 101 people from 27 countries are mostly scientists, conservationists, and government personnel. GSG members agree to actively work towards the GSG´s goal of understanding and securing viable populations of all species and subspecies of grouse in the wild.

All GSG members will automatically become members of the Species Survival Commission (SSC) of the IUCN. SSC summarizes the main responsibilities of SG members as (http://www.iucn.org/themes/ssc/memonly/introSSC.html):

  • Working with the SG to gather and manage species data and information;
  • Assessing the conservation status of species against the IUCN Red List categories and updating the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species;
  • Promoting the use and understanding of the Red List categories; and
  • Contributing towards the compilation of species Action Plans and their promotion and implementation.

All GSG members will receive Grouse News (GN), the newsletter of the Grouse Specialist Group. Its major task is to stimulate the exchange of information and discussion among grousers worldwide. GN is published in June and December.

If you are interested to become a member of the GSG, please contact the GSG Chair.
GSG membership is individual. Organizations cannot become GSG members.
